About Us
FLOOD-Mesh was born out of lived experience. During Cyclone Alfred, we realised just how little real-time information was available on road conditions as the waters rose. Even official flood gauges often left us wondering: who actually reads these, and how does it help residents in the moment? That moment pushed us to team up and create a solution that delivers the missing link — live, street-level awareness for both communities and first responders.
Mission
To provide reliable, affordable, and resilient flood intelligence that communities can actually deploy, sustain, and trust — starting here on the Gold Coast.
Approach
We use low-cost solar-powered sensors, LoRa mesh networking, and open data formats. Our priority is not profit but impact — making sure the information is accessible, flexible, and useful when people need it most. Every technical decision, from using self-healing mesh radios to open APIs, is made to keep the system resilient and adaptable.
Community
FLOOD-Mesh is community-first. We welcome collaboration from councils, professionals, schools, and residents. Whether it’s hosting a node, sharing feedback, or helping shape new features, the community guides where and how FLOOD-Mesh grows.
Vision & Roadmap
Right now, our focus is on flood monitoring. But our long-term vision is broader — to build a platform for general disaster resilience. We see FLOOD-Mesh as a foundation that can one day expand into supporting other emergencies, from bushfires to severe storms, always using the same principles of openness and resilience.
- Now: Build and test small deployments of sensor “sticks” (the first of which is already in the works).
- Next: Scale to larger rollouts after proving the technology in real weather events.
- Then: Add predictive AI to forecast road closures and improve decision-making.
- Future: Expand geographically and into other areas of disaster management.
